Barongko Recipe
Ingredients
- Ripe banana kepok - 1 comb (600 grams)
- Coconut milk, from 2 coconuts - 1.5 liters
- Eggs - 8 eggs
- Sweetened condensed milk - 1/2 can
- Granulated sugar - 200 grams
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Yellow coloring (optional) - 2 drops
- Banana leaves, cut into 30x15 cm - 15 pieces
- Toothpick or stick, for pinning - to taste
- Purchase ingredients and cooking utensils

- Peel the banana and remove the center or black seeds so that the barongko will not have black spots.
- Blend bananas with coconut milk, eggs, and sugar gradually until smooth. Transfer the dough to a container.
- Take 2 banana leaves and stack them together. Pour cup of the banana mixture into the banana leaf, then gently wrap it into a tum. Pin it with a toothpick or stick. Repeat this step until all the dough has been wrapped.
- Heat a steamer/cooker until steam appears. Steam the barongko for 25 minutes until cooked and the leaves look wilted and change color. Lift.
- Ready to be served.
- 1. Melt the banana leaves before use by heating them over a steaming pot that has already come out of steam. Or it could be dried in the sun.
