Egg Crust Ingredients:

  • Oil to taste (used for cooking)
  • 1 chicken egg / duck egg
  • 1 small bowl of rice
  • 2 red onions (finely chopped)
  • Garlic 2 cloves (finely chopped)
  • Chili powder to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Flavors such as beef/chicken royco to taste

Egg crust complement:

  • Roasted coconut to taste (can be replaced with shredded chicken or beef)
  • Ebi roasted enough

How to Make Home-style Betawi Egg Crust:

  1. Heat the oil, while waiting for the oil to heat up, break the chicken or duck eggs in a bowl and beat until smooth. 
  2. Next add rice, shallots, garlic, chili powder, salt and seasoning to taste. Beat the mixture until smooth, then pour into a pan with hot oil.
  3. Flatten the dough in the pan, while smoothing it like frying an omelet / omelette, fry until completely cooked and then turn the dough over. After it is cooked evenly, remove and drain.
  4. Serve with roasted coconut and ebi if you like. If I just use shredded chicken. Yummy!

I prefer home-style egg crust like this, the taste is more friendly to the stomach than the original Betawi egg crust. But yeah, it just depends on your taste.
