Since my friend Lily, who lives in Germany, has shared photos of her orchid collection, suddenly my interest in this ornamental plant has resurfaced. After this hobby has been suspended for a long time, to be precise, since I did re-pottingCattleya orchids which ended up zoning, now I am challenged again to try (once again!) to grow orchids. I am also amazed by Lily's success in cultivating orchids in her apartment. Some are even grown in aquatic culture which seems to be a trend for orchids. I saw Lily's apartment environment, where the orchids get indirect sunlight from the wide glass windows, the temperature is stable and not exposed to rain or other weather, making their habitat more protected and measured than planting them directly in the yard. Unfortunately the house where I live, sunlight cannot reach the edge of the window, so orchids must be placed in the yard, exposed to direct sunlight, rained on and attacked by pests.
